Martin Walsh Architectural (MWA), the family owned RIBA chartered firm of Architects, has successfully overseen the construction of Brinsworth Community Centre based in Rotherham.
Appointed as design and build contractors for the 600m² building and responsible for obtaining building regulations and fire authority approvals, MWA worked on behalf of CADAM Construction and Brinsworth Parish Council.
Delivering a modern, steel-framed, brick-built building with a contemporary look and feel, Brinsworth Community Centre boasts glass curtain walling to allow natural light to flow throughout, creating a bright and open space. Renewables were also integral to the project, with solar and heat recovery systems installed.
‘The Centre’, which is how the building is known locally, is now a multipurpose venue that features a licensed function hall, meeting rooms, café and resource room, all of which are available to members of the Brinsworth community.
Marcus Walsh, MWA Director, comments: “The centre is striking, with multiple design features helping to create a welcoming, appealing space that local people can be proud of.
“It is a great example of how a building can enhance an area and add value – in this instance to a whole community who will benefit from the facilities created.”
Cain Green, Chartered Commercial Director at Cadam Construction, adds: “We thank our Architects Martin Walsh Architectural for being our design and build partners in bringing to life the initial concept of our planning architects.
“It wasn’t without its challenges, especially when we consider our close proximity to the community and school and the need for a fully engineered retaining wall. But, MWA processed the brief quickly and efficiently, overseeing multiple partners to deliver a functional, interesting building on time and on budget. We have received some fantastic feedback from the Brinsworth community and know that it will be enjoyed for many years to come!”
