Martin Walsh Architectural (MWA), one of the region’s leading architectural firms, has been awarded a £2.5million contract to design a new manufacturing facility for Louvolite, the British manufacturer and distributor of window blind fabrics and systems.
Supporting the continued growth of Louvolite, the 1450sqm warehouse and 2884sqm two-storey building will be based at Ashton Road in Hyde. Positioned on the company’s existing premises, the new development includes offices, a warehouse, production facility and a state-of-the-art training and showroom; it will be built by Radcliffe Construction and the Civil and Structural engineers are Leeds based Melia Smith and Jones.
In addition to being named as architectural designers for the new manufacturing site, which has been developed to emulate the mill window openings that had been on the site since 1920 before being demolished in 2011, MWA also led the successful planning application that was approved back in December 2015.
Matthew Robinson, Technical Director for Martin Walsh Architectural comments: “We were really excited to have been awarded the contract with Louvolite and that the proposed facility has now been given the green light. Louvolite is an innovative manufacturer, with an enviable reputation; we’re certainly proud to be supporting their expansion and to be a part of their journey.
Efficiency has been integral to the design, which features solar panels and acoustically enhanced façade materials to minimise noise pollution to the adjacent residential properties.
Work is expected to be completed by December 2017.
